10/27-10/28/23 Travel Day - Bellingham to Tokyo

 10/27

Early Day leaving Bellingham at 4AM with a 7:55 flight to Tokyo.  Connected through Honolulu - flight from Honolulu to Tokyo was 8.5 hours-ish.  Not bad except for the crying babies - was able to sleep some but wanted to stay awake so I could acclimate myself to Tokyo time (16 hours ahead of PDT - at least until November 5th).

10/28

Landed in Tokyo Haneda airport at 5:30pm and swiftly made it through customs and met Ellen outside of customs.  She drove us through Tokyo (a long, long tunnel under part of the city - 18km long!) to her and Toshi's place in Kichijoji-Cho (Cho means neighborhood), Musasino-Shi (Shi means city) - in Western Tokyo.

Enjoyed a Japanese craft pale ale before Toshi made okonomiyaki for dinner - a savory traditional Japanese pancake.  Prepared right at our table.  Not many tourists get this for a first meal!

Toshi and I watched a bit of the Japanese World Series between the Hanshin Tigers and the Orix Buffaloes.  As you can see from Tohi's shirt - he is a big Tigers fan.  The fans have a cheer for each player and sing songs - reminded me more of European Football (Soccer) than American Baseball.  Both teams are from Osaka and we are due to be in Osaka this coming week so will have that energy in the city.
