11/6 Weather: 68 degrees and cloudy
Breakfast after a nice hot bath in the public bath Men go into one and women in the other. Obviously no bath pics, lol
Google translator is so helpful to read menus and stuff. Well, not a menu. More of a coursed breakfast.
Left Atami to drive further into the mountains to Hakone. Look at these windy roads on the navigation map!
Finally, Mt Fuji! Or Fuji-San as they call it.
Torii gate
And another one.
Took the Hakone “Ropeway” up and over the mountain with a few stops in between.
Selfie with Fuji san
Fuji-San!
Some volcanic activity
More Mt Fuji!
Mt Owakunadi
The walkway was closed due to more than usual volcanic activity. The whole area smelled like sulfur. Not overpowering though.
The Black Eggs of Owakudani.
These eggs are cooked in natural spring water just a few hundred meters from where I’m standing for 60 minutes at a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. They are then steamed at 100 degrees for 15 minutes in steel baskets.
Onto the next stop through volcanic smoke…..
Down to Gora……
Gora manhole cover…
Gora Brewery by Nobu!
The beer was REALLY good.
Hakone Open Air Museum - sculptures from well known artists around the world……
See us waving into this huge shiny ball in the air?
Children’s play area….
Couldn’t take any pics inside but there were lots of original Picassos. Over 300 I guess. Oil paintings, sketches, pottery, etc.
Why don’t have these in Disneyland? Hot spring foot bath…..
A Rodin……
Cable car ride and then back on the ropeway back to our car, dusk at this point. Guess who’s dancing in the ropeway (gondola) car…..
And very windy! This time from wind, not a road with hairpin turns…..and the effect the steam rising at dusk was dramatic
And more windy roads to get out of Hakone and back to Tokyo. About a 2.5 hour drive. Looks more like a hiking trail……
