11/7 Ueno and then Asakusa

11/7. Weather. 80 degrees and quite humid today.

Passed a school bus on our way to the train…..

Temple in Ueno Park

More middle eastern influence in Ueno. Lots of kabobs.

Finally took our first subway today. The transportation network here still amazes me (obviously with all my pics)

Sensoji Temple gate in Asakusa.

Sensoji Temple originally built in the year 645. Fire and earthquakes took it down several times but it did stand without  incident from 1649 until allied bombing took it out in WWII. Rebuilt in the 1950s.

Sensoji is perhaps the most famous and photographed of Tokyo's temples. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in the capital, and the five-story pagoda, trails of incense and vast eaves will take you back to a Tokyo of time gone by

Really beautiful grounds at this temple.

Tokyo Sky Tree

Snacks and beer…….quail eggs….

If you are a save the whales type, this is not your picture. We had to try some whale bacon though…….

Asakusa manhole cover…..someone should do a coffee table book about these.

This is Ellen’s husband, Toshi. Born and raised in Tokyo. Our tour guide for the day.

……This is how we use google translate to read Japanese. I love technology……

Locals buy a bottle of booze and leave it with the restaurant with a tag so it is ready for them next time they visit.

It was a Chinese restaurant so we had to have some Chinese wine with dinner. Very different from sake. We put our own sugar in to taste.

Veggies with egg on top
