11/8 Shinjuku!

11/8 Weather: 70 degrees, sunny and perfect

Been excited to come to Shinjuku (one of Tokyo’s many “downtown” areas) since we got here and it did not disappoint!

Shinjuku is a few stops from Ellen’s.  Roughly halfway between her place and downtown Tokyo  Shinjuku is the busiest train station in the world with over 3.5 million people moving through it per day!!! 😳 It took us 10 minutes to figure out how to leave the place, lol

But we figured it out……

We found it interesting the stacks of foreign money at the money exchange place on a normal street

Great lunch in Omoide Yokocho area of Shinjuku.

 Pork tongue and yakitori

Decided against the pork womb.  But did have a couple of beers with big head

Sticker wall. Bummed we brought no Corner Taphouse stickers.

Cocoon building

Tokyo Metropolitan building south tower.

View from the 45th floor of one of the two towers of Tokyo Metropolitan building

Some perspective on the size of Tokyo…..

Meiji Jingu Shrine. Huge grounds!  This is the large park you  can see from the observation deck we were just at.

I just like this picture. There were several birds flying overheard.  The birdsong in Japan is very prominent. Similar but different to the tropical locations we have visited.

Godzilla!  This is Shinjuku at night

Found an incredible restaurant in Shinjuku called Kuriya for dinner……

Octopus tentatcles

Gotta do the veggies!  Every restaurant absolutely nails the cooking of meat, fish, and veggies to perfection. Asparagus al dente. Just incredible.

Fried tofu….I love watching the dancing fish flake

Red Snapper

Crepe cake with coffee……mmmmm

Made it 20 feet down the street before Carrie decided tequila shots were a good idea….

Tequila shots were a great idea.

Wandered through the red light district and the love hotels. I expected their to be fun and crazy bars in this area which is why we went but nothing but clubs and love hotels.

Back to normalcy….

Hit up Golden Gai which are 300+ bars in a one block radius. All very tiny and great vibes.

Found the Shinjuku Tiger. Famous. Documentary about him on Amazon Prime. Looking forward to checking it out when we get home.

View of Golden Gai from Bar Lucky.

Shochu shots. I tried viper. Yes, actual alcohol with a full on viper soaking in it!

And cockroach. Actually quite sweet. Good for your stomach. The cockroach she put in each shot were pretty big!  Remember those tequila shots earlier?  It allows you to do things like this

Bummed that the video of our bartender Izuki explaining the health benefits of each one is too large to include here but viper is good for “dick”.

Everyone on trains either sleep or on their phones. Very interesting culture here in that you do not greet people on the street or have small talk anywhere except in bars. Carrie fits right in on the train home tonight…..
